Former Olympiacos player Gustavo Scarpa sent Tolstoy's "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" to the top of Amazon's bestsellers after recommending it to his followers.

The influence of football players is usually limited to what they do within the four lines or to the content they share with their millions of social media followers.

Gustavo Scarpa, however, has managed to make headlines with something completely different from his football career. The former Olympiacos player has shown a real love of literature, periodically posting on social media about the books he is reading. One of his choices, in fact, evolved in a way that probably not even he expected.

Scarpa posted a video on social media in which he discussed Leo Tolstoy's classic work, "The Death of Ivan Ilyich," urging his followers to read it.

The response was impressive. As reported by the Brazilian "Folha de S.Paulo," the book shot to the top of Amazon's bestsellers, some 140 years after its first publication.

Thus, one of the most important works of world literature found itself back in the spotlight in Brazil, this time thanks to a football player's influence.

Scarpa's love for literature, however, does not stop at "The Death of Ivan Ilyich". "Folha de S.Paulo" contacted him and asked him to choose three more books to recommend to its audience, highlighting a different side of his personality.

The former Olympiacos player seems to be becoming an unexpected book influencer, since a single book recommendation of his was enough to relaunch sales of a work first published almost 140 years ago.

In other news, Orbelin Pineda praised Armando 'Hormiga' Gonzalez and said he hopes that he will succeed in Greece while playing for Olympiacos.

Armando Gonzalez's arrival at Olympiacos has stirred up Mexico. In fact, before El Tri's training session, former AEK Athens player Orbelin Pineda was asked about the Mexican forward for the Red-and-White side.

"It's great that another Mexican is going to another country. Let's hope he succeeds and can shine. We know his abilities, and he can score many goals and break records. The most important thing is to wish him the best; he's already doing very well," he said.

In fact, he revealed that Hormiga asked him for advice about life in Greece and about Olympiacos.
