Free agent Wilfried Zaha could land in Greece as Olympiacos weigh a move for the ex-Crystal Palace winger before the looming transfer deadline for unsigned stars.
As reported by media outlet TransferFeed, Ivorian winger Wilfried Zaha has been offered to Greek club Olympiacos. It is also being reported that the Piraeus club are seriously considering acquiring the services of the 33-year-old. The next 24 hours are being considered key for the negotiations that may lead to a successful transfer, as the club make their decision on whether to sign another winger. The choice of manager Imanol Alguacil, and whether he is happy with the wingers currently at his disposal, is being considered very important in the transfer saga unfolding in the Olympiacos environment.
TransferFeed also mentioned that the owner of Olympiacos, Evangelos Marinakis, has confirmed that if the manager and the sporting authority of the club agree to sign Zaha, the availability of funds will not pose any hurdle to the transfer.
It is to be noted that after the expiration of his last contract with Turkish club Galatasaray, the last year of which he spent on loan at MLS club Charlotte FC, Wilfried Zaha is currently a free agent, and according to the official HFF schedule, has until 29 September to find a club for himself, as that is the date when the summer transfer window closes for free agents.
A product of the Crystal Palace youth academy, Zaha made his debut for the senior side of the club back in 2010, and has since played 417 league fixtures for the Eagles over four spells, two of which were on loan. The Ivorian winger has also played for Manchester United, Cardiff City, Galatasaray, Lyon and Charlotte FC. Most of the time he spent at these clubs was on loan, except that spent at Manchester United and Galatasaray.
While at the Red Devils, Zaha was part of the squad that won the 2013 FA Community Shield, and at Galatasaray, the winger played a role in the club winning the 2023 Turkish Super Cup, and the 2023-24 Turkish Super League.
In addition to his club career, he has also made appearances in 36 official fixtures for the Ivory Coast National Football Team and scored 5 goals for Les Éléphants. It is noteworthy that Zaha, who was born in Ivory Coast, played his youth career for the England National Football Team, making appearances for the U-19 and U-21 squads. He also played two games for the senior squad before changing allegiances.
