Olympiacos are moving swiftly to secure Santiago Hezze's future, fighting off European heavyweights Juventus and Villarreal following his pivotal role in their historic continental and domestic success.
Olympiacos are looking to extend Santiago Hezze's contract soon.
According to an update from TransferFeed, Hezze, whose contract with Olympiacos ends in the summer of 2028, is set for an early renewal, as the Greek giants expect him to play a key role in midfield in the years ahead.
The 24-year-old has represented Argentina in their U23 side, and he signed for The Red and Whites in 2023 after spending four seasons at Atletico Huracan.
Hezze was a part of the historic Olympiacos squad which won the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2024 by beating Fiorentina in the final. The following season, he started for José Luis Mendilibar's team as they won the Super League Greece, the Greek Football Cup, and the Greek Super Cup.
The Argentinian attracted interest from several European clubs earlier in the summer transfer window, including the likes of Olympique Marseille, Juventus, and Villarreal. His presence in the side for the future was up in the air since Olympiacos was looking towards signing another defensive midfielder, especially Mexican captain Edson Alvarez, who became a prominent transfer target after Armando 'La Hormiga' Gonzalez's exploits.
Marseille, Juventus and Villarreal were the frontrunners during the summer window, testing the waters in the Piraeus atmosphere for Hezze. However, there were a large number of undisclosed clubs waiting to pounce on an opportunity of sale.
Olympiacos' intent on renewing Hezze's contract beyond the summer of 2028 reinforces the club's faith in him, and would go a long way in keeping interested parties away from the player in the upcoming January transfer window.
In other news, Olympiacos are weighing the option of bringing Nottingham Forest forward Arnaud Kalimuendo on a loan deal to the club. The Tricky Trees are owned by Evangelos Marinakis, and it will not be a problem for his Greek club to bring the Frenchman in. A six-month loan spell from January till the end of the campaign without the clause of a purchase.
Despite the shared ownership between the two clubs, no agreement has been reached till now as Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt remains in the mix, hoping for a permanent signing. However, considering Kalimuendo's role at Nottingham Forest, a loan deal is the likely option for his future than an outright sale.
It will be a wait-and-watch scenario for this one as if he continues his career in the Premier League, Olympiacos will always be in the zone to acquire him.
