Olympiacos face competition from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej for Sabah FK’s Steve Solvet, as the veteran defender seeks a high-profile move during the winter window.

According to a report by media outlet TransferFeed, Olympiacos are trying to secure the services of 30-year-old Guadelopian centre-back, Steve Solvet. As stated in the news, the club are trying to bring the player to Greece during the upcoming winter transfer window. TransferFeed noted in its article, “Steve Solvet, a 30-year-old Guadeloupean international centre-back, is of interest to Olympiacos, which is considering him for the January transfer window.”

However, it is interesting to note that if Thrylos wish to sign the player, they may have to enter into a tussle with another club. As TransferFeed reported in the same article, Saudi Pro League side Al-Khaleej are also interested in acquiring the services of the centre-back. The article said, “Al-Khaleej, a club in the top division of Saudi Arabia, is also interested. It is reported that both clubs have taken steps to acquire the Sabah player and wish to reach an agreement in early January.”

The 30-year-old defender, who began his career at French club RC Strasbourg, played 42 league fixtures for the reserve squad of the club before moving to fellow Dijon FCO. Solvet then went on to play for multiple clubs like Bergerac, Sète, Orléans and Martigues before signing for his current club, Azerbaijan Premier League side Sabah Futbol Klub, in 2025. Since signing for the club, the player has appeared in 30 official league fixtures for the club and has scored 2 goals in the process.

In addition to his club career, Solvet has also played 15 official games for the Guadelope National Football Team. He has scored 2 goals for his country.

Since receiving the news that the player may leave the club, Sabah FK has also begun discussions with Solvet’s agents about a potential contract extension. However, it is believed that this will be difficult to achieve, as the player supposedly wants to move to a bigger club.

Currently under a contract that runs until June 2027, Solvet is free to discuss his options with other clubs as he will enter the final six months of his contract in January. The player, according to Transfermarkt, is currently valued in the market at €1 million.

As things stand, it is unlikely that Steve Solvet will continue playing in Azerbaijan. If the reports regarding his wish to play for a bigger club are true, Olympiacos looks to be his best possible choice, as the club would definitely provide him with wide exposure to European football.
