Olympiacos forward Armando 'Hormiga' Gonzalez reunited with his former Chivas teammates a few weeks after completing his transfer to Greek soccer.

With the start of Rafael Marquez's era at the helm of the Mexican national team, the 'Kaiser' made it clear that he wants to maintain some Chivas elements while also opening the door to new faces. For his first commitments, the coach called up six players from the Rebaño Sagrado: Raul Rangel, Luis Romo, Piojo Alvarado, and Diego Campillo, who already have experience with El Tri, plus young players Santiago Sandoval and Hugo Camberos.

The only Chivas player left out of this call-up was Brian Gutiérrez, who did not perform as expected in the last World Cup and has also not managed to consolidate himself during the Apertura 2026.

For his part, Armando Gonzalez received the call, now as an Olympiacos player, allowing him to reunite with some of his old Rebaño teammates during El Tri's camp.

Just over a month ago, Santiago Sandoval and 'Hormiga' Gonzalez stopped seeing each other every day after the forward signed for Olympiacos of Greece and left Chivas. Now, both coincided again during the Mexican national team's camp.

Before the Mexican national team's match against Peru, during warm-ups, they were seen giving each other shoves and playing together, a sign of the strong relationship they share.

In fact, during the match, 'Hormiga' Gonzalez sat on the bench next to Santiago Sandoval and Hugo Camberos, his former Chivas teammates, with whom he undoubtedly maintains a great friendship.

After standing out with the youth national teams, Hugo Camberos and Santiago Sandoval came on in the second half against Peru, making their debuts with the senior Mexican national team at the start of Rafael Márquez's era.

That said, it is good news for Olympiacos that Gonzalez hasn't played that much in this break. Perhaps the position most affected by injuries and underperformance is center forward, with Ayoub El Kaabi out for nearly the entire campaign due to injury and Roman Yaremchuk not measuring up.
