Olympiacos are closing in on a permanent deal for Ludogorets midfielder Petar Stanic, beating Coventry City to the signing. A €1.5M gap remains to be bridged

Olympiacos F.C. are set to beat Coventry City F.C in the race to sign Ludogorets' Petar Stanic for a permanent transfer this summer.

According to a report by Gazzetta, Olympiacos and Bulgarian outfit PFC Ludogorets Razgrad are closing in on an agreement for the transfer of Petar Stanic during this upcoming summer transfer window. The gap between the Greek giants and the Bulgarian side has decreased since the registration of initial interest by the former, and a difference of around 1.5 million euros remains to be bridged.

Last season's Championship winners, Coventry City, emerged as an early competitor for Olympiacos as they are also keen to sign the 24-year-old as part of their newly promoted Premier League team, as per an exclusive report by journalist Ekrem Konur for OlympiacosRoundtable. Thrylos sent an initial offer of 6 million euros to Ludogorets, and the bid was increased to 7.5 million euros by club president Evangelos Marinakis after Coventry City expressed interest. However, the Bulgarians remained firm on their 10 million euros valuation for the player.

Stanic, who primarily plays as a number ten but is versatile enough to feature in every attacking role, made 10 appearances for Ludogorets in the Europa League last season, scoring seven goals and registering one assist. The Serbian international wants a change of scenery, and his stellar performances from the 2025-26 campaign are opening doors almost all around Europe. Coventry City emerge as the best option for the player since they are playing Premier League football in the new season, but the Red and Whites from Greece will be able to provide him with a much more active role, and also a chance to feature in European competitions, as Olympiacos are set to fight it out in the UEFA Champions League's league phase third qualifying round.

Stanic began his professional career with Dinamo 1945 and then moved to Serbian outfits Železničar Pančevo before signing a four-year contract with Red Star Belgrade. He signed for Ludogorets Razgrad a year back and has emerged as a sensation for them, making 34 appearances across all competitions, netting nine times.

As Olympiacos nears the signing, they will be keeping an eye on Coventry City as the English club possesses enough financial resources to go for a hijack. Marinakis' representatives will be focusing on agreeing personal terms with the 24-year-old soon after completing the transfer fee requirements with Ludogorets, who are also keen on cashing in the player.
