West Ham lead the chase for Famalicão’s €25 million playmaker Gustavo Sá, but Olympiacos remain poised to hijack the midfielder’s move to the Championship.

Gustavo Sá, a 21-year-old midfielder currently playing at Portuguese club Famalicão, is reportedly the centre of a bidding contest between Greek side Olympiacos and English side West Ham United. As reported by media outlet TransferFeed, the youngster, considered one of the brightest prospects in Portuguese football, is under a contract with Famalicão that runs until June 2029 and has a market value of €25 million.

The Red and Whites have been eyeing the services of the player, who is supposedly a perfect addition to José Luis Mendilibar’s squad, for quite some time now. The midfielder, capable of playing as both a no. 10 and a no. 8, has also reportedly attracted the interest of Portuguese side SL Benfica and West Ham United. Earlier, the media outlet O Jogo reported that the deal with West Ham was almost finalised and that the Club had reached an agreement to sign Sá for €20 million.

It is noteworthy that the youngster had earlier rejected a move to Saudi Arabia when Al Ittihad reached an agreement with Famalicão to transfer him for €20 million. West Ham seem, till now, to be in pole position to sign the midfielder, the only hurdle in the deal being the price that is asked by Famalicão for the transfer of its star player.

A move to either Olympiacos or West Ham United is sure to give him wide exposure, as he has played the entirety of his career up to now in his home country, Portugal. A graduate of the academy of Famalicão, he debuted for the first team in 2022 and has since played 108 league games for Azuis e Brancos, scoring 11 goals in the process. He became the youngest player to feature in 100 Primeira Liga games when he took the field against F.C. Arouca on 6 March 2026, breaking João Moutinho’s record.

In addition to playing for his club, Sá has been a part of the youth sections of the Portugal national football team since 2022, when he first played for their U-18 team. The midfielder currently plays for the Portugal national U-21 team, for whom he has scored 2 goals.

It remains to be seen which club between Olympiacos and West Ham United finally manages to secure the deal with Gustavo Sá. Either move will definitely be of immense importance in providing exposure and a stage to showcase his talent to the young midfielder.
