Olympiacos have made inquiries for Fenerbahce midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, but the Morocco star will not negotiate until after the World Cup. The 29-year-old is valued at around €8M.

Sofyan Amrabat, currently in the United States of America on World Cup duty with Morocco, is reported to be the top target for Greek club Olympiacos. He is a player whom Olympiacos head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar believes will be the perfect addition to the squad to bolster the midfield, as per the statement given by reporter Giorgos Tsanakas on bwinSPORT FM 94.6 (via TransferFeed). Greek media outlet Kokkinos Protahtlitis also confirmed that the Moroccan midfielder is indeed a top target for Thrylos.

However, the reporter also stated that Amrabat’s family, who are also his agents, have already issued a statement that says that the player will not enter into any negotiation for a possible move away from his current club, Fenerbahçe, before the completion of the World Cup. The 29-year-old defensive midfielder first wants to concentrate his entire focus on the World Cup campaign of Morocco, and then enter discussions with the Turkish club for a possible contract renewal. The current contract that binds Amrabat to Fenerbahçe is set to expire in two years.

If reports coming out of Turkey are to be believed, Fenerbahçe will not part ways with the Moroccan before the completion of his contract duration for any sum less than €8 million. It remains to be seen whether Olympiacos will be willing to pay this fee for acquiring the services of the player.

The player spent the 2025/26 season away from Turkey, playing in La Liga for Real Betis on loan. He made 29 appearances for the Spanish club in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process, a long-range strike in the Europa League. His only other goal of the season came for Fenerbahçe during the UEFA Champions League qualification rounds.

Amrabat, who started his senior career at Eredivisie side Utrecht, has, over the course of his career, played for multiple other clubs, including the likes of Feyenoord, Club Brugge, Fiorentina, and Manchester United. He gained considerable fame for his strong performances for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a tournament during which the then 25-year-old helped his nation achieve its best-ever finish to a World Cup campaign, a fourth place on the podium. If reports are to be taken into account, Amrabat’s wish is to join a side that will regularly compete in European competitions.

The saga of the transfer will continue after the culmination of the World Cup and will definitely prove to be an interesting affair. Olympiacos will want to secure the deal in the early stages of the summer transfer window, but as per reports, a deal can be finalized only by the end of June or the beginning of August.
