Roberto De Zerbi is moving aggressively to rebuild his backline, launching a bold swoop for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke to spark a North London resurgence.

Following back to back 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League across the last two seasons, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to start fast in the 2026 summer transfer market.

The North London club narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the season last month, with new boss Roberto de Zerbi working magic with a derelict and injury-riddled squad to finish two points above West Ham.

Since the season ended, Spurs have started strong in the window, with reports suggesting that they've already secured the services of Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi, who's Cherries contract is set to expire at the end of next month.

According to recent reports, they've also tabled an initial bid for Brighton star Jan Paul van Hecke as the Italian looks to revitalise his defence.

The Dutchman has had a stellar season on the South Coast, and as per The Athletic, his close relationship with De Zerbi is a driving force behind Spurs' optimism.

Talks are reportedly set to continue regarding the possible transfer, and, given Tottenham's aggressive early approach to transfers before the window opens later this month, a deal could be agreed soon.

Targeting players with Premier League experience could be vital for De Zerbi as Spurs look to push back toward the top half of the table and rebuild after what has been a domestic disaster for the Lilywhites over the last two campaigns.
