A'ja Wilson is the heavy favorite to win the 2026 WNBA MVP award, commanding 60% of the vote in the annual general manager survey. Breanna Stewart ranked second after earning 27% of the vote. Caitlin Clark and Allisha Gray rounded out the top of the voting results.
Wilson enters the season as the reigning four-time MVP and the only player in league history to win the award four times. She earned All-WNBA First Team honors in 2025 and led the Las Vegas Aces to the championship. Wilson signed a three-year, $5 million fully guaranteed supermax contract in April.
Wilson averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists on 50.7% shooting last season, with 2.3 blocks and 1.6 steals per game and 42.4% shooting from 3. She also won her third Defensive Player of the Year award and made the All-Defensive First Team.
The Aces retained their core from last year's title run despite a new collective bargaining agreement that rapidly increased salaries. However, the team did sign Chennedy Carter to add bench depth. At the top of the roster, Chelsea Gray, who was voted the league's best point guard, continues to run the Aces' offense; Jackie Young brings dynamic scoring; Jewell Loyd's skill set raises the ceiling; and Wilson's interior dominance sets the tone on both ends.
Stewart's 27% comes off a busy New York Liberty offseason. The franchise re-signed Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones, then added Satou Sabally in free agency. Sabally gives Stewart another scorer up front. Stewart averaged 18.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in 2025. The Liberty played through a string of midseason injuries last season, and Stewart logged heavy minutes through them.
Clark played 13 games last season and missed nearly half the schedule with leg injuries. She was the 2024 Rookie of the Year. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White has talked up offensive numbers that Clark has not yet reached at the WNBA level. A healthy season would back up the GM vote, even if 60-27 leaves Wilson well clear in the preseason ballot.
