Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is taking another step into Hollywood, joining the cast of Netflix’s The Hunting Wives for its upcoming second season as her profile continues to grow well beyond the basketball court.
Reese’s involvement in the Netflix drama marks her most substantial scripted television role to date and comes after she publicly praised the series months before production began on its second season. The show, based on the novel by May Cobb, became a breakout hit for the streaming platform and features a returning ensemble that includes Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman.
Reese, who recently completed her second season with the Chicago Sky, shared the news on social media this week, posting behind-the-scenes photos from the set and hinting at her role by referring to herself as “Trainer Barbie.” Her casting followed a social media exchange last summer in which she openly expressed her enthusiasm for the show and jokingly offered her services for a future season.
Her move into television builds on a growing resume in entertainment that has developed alongside her rapid rise in professional basketball. Reese previously appeared as herself in Kathryn Bigelow’s political thriller A House of Dynamite, a project that helped spark her interest in pursuing acting more seriously.
Reflecting on that experience and her ambitions beyond sports, Reese described how stepping onto a film set pushed her out of her comfort zone.
“I want to get an acting coach,” Reese told People in a September interview, explaining that conversations with established actors helped convince her that formal preparation mattered.
She acknowledged that the transition into acting initially came with nerves but credited her fellow cast members for easing the adjustment.
“I had some great people on the cast that made me feel really comfortable,” Reese said. “The girls there made me feel comfortable.”
Reese’s expanding entertainment portfolio also includes voice work. Earlier this year, she announced that she voices a character in the animated film GOAT, produced by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The project adds another layer to a brand that has steadily extended into media, fashion and pop culture.
“I model already, so it’s like adding to the résumé,” Reese said at the time. “I’m young right now, so I’m going to do it while I’m young.”
While her off-court ventures continue to multiply, Reese remains one of the WNBA’s most productive young players. Selected seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA draft, she has averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game over her first two professional seasons. She earned All-Star selections in both 2024 and 2025 and was invited to USA Basketball training camp last December.
The timing of Reese’s casting also coincides with mounting anticipation around the next chapter of The Hunting Wives. Members of the cast have teased a darker, more provocative turn in the new season, hinting at major plot twists that are expected to stir strong reactions from viewers.
As Reese balances elite-level basketball with a growing slate of entertainment projects, her latest role underscores a broader trend among athletes leveraging their platforms in Hollywood. For Reese, the move appears less like a detour and more like a natural extension of a career defined by ambition, visibility and a willingness to step onto new stages.
