The Chicago Sky traded Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in a return featuring multiple future first-round picks.
On the first day of WNBA free agency, the Chicago Sky traded franchise cornerstone Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. The deal was first reported by Taylor Rooks, while the Sky later announced full details of the trade.
In the trade, the Sky receive the Dream's first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, while sending Reese and the right to swap second-round picks with Atlanta in 2028.
"The Sky are trading Angel to the Dream in exchange for two first-round picks. This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties," Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca said in a statement.
The Sky now holds five first-round picks over the next three seasons — the No. 5 overall pick in 2026 (via Connecticut), a 2027 first-rounder (own pick, with Washington holding swap rights, plus the pick acquired from Atlanta), and two 2028 first-rounders (own pick and the one from Atlanta). For a rebuilding franchise, the addition of draft capital gives Chicago a meaningful foundation to work from.
After being selected as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game across 64 games in her Sky tenure. She earned two All-Star selections and won consecutive rebounding titles. As a rookie, she set the WNBA single-season rebounding record and posted 15 consecutive double-doubles.
"Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky," Pagliocca said. "We are thankful for her many important contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond. We wish Angel all the best in her next chapter."
Her second WNBA season showed continued growth despite a back injury that limited her to 30 games. She averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and a career-best 3.7 assists per game.
“Angel [Reese] is a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building in Atlanta," Dream general manager Dan Padover said in a statement. "She has already proven herself as one of the most impactful players in the league, and her competitiveness, production, and drive to win align seamlessly with our vision. This is an exciting moment for our organization and our fans.”
It won't take long for Reese to face her former team. The Dream and Sky have a preseason game scheduled for April 29 at Wintrust Arena, with the first regular-season meeting in Chicago set for June 9.
