New Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese was recently a guest on Michelle Obama's podcast.
Reese took to social media to reveal why she went on Obama's podcast.
Reese is one of the most popular athletes in the world, but it must have been special for her to speak to Michelle Obama, the wife of former president Barack Obama.
A model off the basketball court, Reese was traded by the Chicago Sky to the Dream this offseason. Reese averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks per game with the Sky. Chicago went just 21-43 when Reese played.
Reese is one of the best -- if not the best -- rebounders in the WNBA. She put up 49 double-doubles in 64 games with the Sky, who now have five first-round picks over the next three seasons after the Reese trade.
Reese enters next season as a two-time rebounding champion. She's a career 42.1% shooter from the field, 18.4% shooter from beyond the arc and 74.6% shooter from the free-throw line.
Dream GM Dan Padover said adding Reese capped a successful offseason for Atlanta.
"When we went into this offseason, we had two main priorities," Padover said. "That was retain our core. And to remain opportunistic. And over the last week, I'm thrilled to say we did both. Keeping these players in Atlanta was just so important to us. And the most special thing is that they want to stay here.
"And then to have someone like Angel come in and say, 'Hey guys, I love what you're doing. I love that city. Let me jump in here.' And to have this whole group as well as the others that are here today come together to try to build something and win a championship. That's what sports is all about."
Reese told reporters during her introductory press conference with the Dream that she's grateful for her time with the Sky and looking forward to her tenure with Atlanta.
The Dream are expected to be a title contender this season.
"I'm always going to be grateful for that because I did experience a lot of great things," Reese said. "I enjoyed being able to grow within my first two years, but I wanted more. I love to win, I love to compete and I wanted to be surrounded by people that can make me better.
"And I am not satisfied with what I am as a player, and I felt like being around these kinds of players would help me be better. I can help them in different ways to help them win, and that's all I ever wanted. I don't care about anything else that comes with it. I want to win and being able to come to an organization that really cared about their players."
