Skylar Diggins missed Chicago Sky practice Tuesday with a knee injury. Coach Tyler Marsh gives an update on her return and role amid trade talk.

Skylar Diggins was absent from Chicago Sky practice on Tuesday, and head coach Tyler Marsh offered an update on the veteran guards return.

Diggins, who signed with the team during the offseason, last played on July 3 when the team lost to the Las Vegas Aces 98-90. She has been sidelined as of late due to a right knee injury.

Chicago Sun-Times' Alissa Hirsh reported that Diggins missed practice on Tuesday but had a productive conversation with Marsh.

"Skylar Diggins did not practice today. Coach Tyler Marsh didn't give a timeline on her return or an update on her role," Hirsh tweeted.

"He did say they've been having productive conversations, about basketball and otherwise. He also said that "all" of their conversations are productive," she added.

Skylar Diggins

On April 11, 2026, Diggins committed to the Sky, signing a two-year contract worth $1.86 million. This season, she is averaging 14.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 19 games.

The Chicago Sky are 7-16 this season and are in 13th place in league standings. Out of the team's 23 games, Diggins has only missed 4 games. However, her role and future with the team is in question.

Recently, Skylar Diggins posted on social media that she was demoted to the bench, which sparked conversations on social media. On July 6, Diggins posted on her Instagram story, " Now I'm coming off the bench?????? (Thumbs up emoji).

Marsh spoke to the benching and stated, " It's a coach's decision," he said during a press conference. Chicago Tribune's Julia Poe reported on July 13 that the franchise is open to change before the August 2nd trade deadline.

Trade Deadline

She reported that general manager Jeff Pagliocca is remaining active. "General manager Jeff Pagliocca prefers to remain active during all trade windows, which has resulted in a flood of moves over the past three seasons that included trading away star players Kahleah Copper, Marina Mabrey and Angel Reese," Poe wrote.

She added, "That pattern could continue this summer — but with three weeks left until that window closes, Diggins is not currently a focal point of any trade effort."

Needless to say, Poe did indicate that the uncertainty surrounding Diggins poses a serious concern for the Sky. Originally, she was one of the centerpieces that was supposed to surround Rickea Jackson, Azurà Stevens, DiJonai Carrington, and Jacy Sheldon.

Jackson is out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL tear, and DiJonai Carrington is recovering from a foot sprain suffered in 2025 and is listed as week-to-week to return.
