Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers addressed the media about her relationship with Azzi Fudd.
At Dallas Wings media day on Monday, Paige Bueckers addressed the media about her relationship with Azzi Fudd.
Bueckers and Fudd are dating, but Bueckers said the Wings didn't draft Fudd because of that.
"I believe me and Azzi's personal relationship is nobody's business but our own," Bueckers said. "And what we choose to share is completely up to us. ... Azzi Fudd was the number one draft pick because of who she is. It had nothing to do with me and everything to do with her."
During Fudd's introductory news conference with the Wings, a reporter asked her if she was still dating Bueckers. Wings public relations lead Pam Flenke answered on behalf of the team.
"I understand why you have to ask that question, but we're going to respectfully decline from commenting on our players' personal lives," Flenke said.
Fudd averaged 17.3 points per game for UConn this past season. She shot 48.1% from the field, 44.7% from beyond the arc and 95.5% from the free-throw line.
Bueckers, who was teammates with Fudd in college, won the 2025 Rookie of the Year Award. She averaged 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists a game and shot 47.7% from the field, 33.1% from 3 and 88.8% from the foul line.
With Bueckers and Fudd leading the way, the Wings will look to make the playoffs this season for the first time since 2023.
Dallas went 10-34 last season. Jose Fernandez is the new head coach this season. He's replacing Chris Koclanes, who was fired after just one season.
