The Indiana Fever brought back four of their free agents from a season ago in Kelsey Mitchell, Lexi Hull, Sophie Cunningham and Damiris Dantas.

Ahead of the Fever's first preseason game, Mitchell, Hull and Cunningham talked about why they re-signed with Indiana.

“I knew that I wanted to be a Fever girl again,” Mitchell said. “…The relationships that I built with AB [Aliyah Boston], CC [Caitlin Clark], even Lexie [Hull] and Sophie [Cunningham] and all those guys, it was just a family vibe. I couldn’t shake it and let it go.”

“This is home,” Hull said. “When the season ended last year, I knew this is where I wanted to be. I’ve been here for four seasons and feel like we had a great momentum last season. We were able to accomplish more than we had in the past. And I think for me, I just want to keep growing on that, building on that, and building with this group.”

“I want to have a home,” Cunningham said. “I want to kind of get established, and I would love to get established in a place like Indiana…When you find a group of girls who really make you fall in love with basketball again and you enjoy it, you enjoy them not only on the court but off the court, you want to hold on to that."

The Fever went 24-20 last season. They beat the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the playoffs before losing to the Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals.

Indiana is expected to be a championship contender this season with superstar guard Caitlin Clark back in the fold. Clark played in only 13 games last season because of injuries and missed the entire playoffs.

“I’m so happy to be back here in Indiana,” Cunningham said. "I know that our core is too.”

The Fever open the preseason against the New York Liberty on Saturday, April 25.
