Kelsey Mitchell scored 37 points against the Dallas Wings and broke A'ja Wilson's WNBA record with her 21st consecutive 20-point game.
Kelsey Mitchell reached 20 points with 4.4 seconds left in the second quarter Thursday at American Airlines Center, taking an inbounds pass from Caitlin Clark and finishing at the rim.
That basket gave Mitchell a 21st consecutive game with at least 20 points, breaking the WNBA record A'ja Wilson set across the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Mitchell had 19 points before Indiana's final possession of the half. She made a technical foul free throw, then hit a short jumper. Paige Bueckers was called for grabbing Clark's left arm on the ensuing inbounds play, and Mitchell scored again before the horn.
She had 9 points in the first quarter and 12 in the second.
Mitchell finished with 37 points, but the Indiana Fever lost 91-85 to the Dallas Wings. She shot 9 of 18 from the field, made 4 of 7 3-pointers and went 15 of 15 at the free-throw line.
Indiana could have clinched a playoff berth with a win.
"I think that it's a part of the game," Mitchell said. "So, for one, I just want to congratulate my team for making me look good. But I think, ultimately, it just comes down, obviously, to work. But I don't really take statistics really that serious. So a lot of this stuff is really circumstantial to me. And so I want to get the dub and we didn't get that. So I think keep my focus on the right thing, keeping the main thing. The main thing is important."
Wilson's record streak began Aug. 28, 2023, against New York. She scored at least 20 points in the final five games of that season and the first 15 games of 2024, averaging 28.2 points during the 20-game run.
Before Wilson, Diana Taurasi owned the league record with 13 consecutive 20-point games over the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
Mitchell's night added several more entries to her season and career totals.
She has 912 points through 37 games, tied with Wilson for fifth on the WNBA's single-season list. Jewell Loyd, Breanna Stewart and Wilson are the only other players who have scored at least 900 points in a season.
Mitchell also has 29 games with at least 20 points this year. That ties Wilson for second on the league's single-season list, five behind the record of 34.
She passed Tamika Catchings for the most 20-point games in Fever history. Mitchell now has 139, one more than Catchings and tied with Lauren Jackson for 10th in WNBA history.
Mitchell has also scored in double figures in 52 consecutive games. No player in Fever history has had a longer streak.
Her 37 points Thursday were one shy of her career high. Mitchell scored 38 against Connecticut in 2019 and matched that total against the Sun again in 2025.
The performance came two nights after Mitchell left Indiana's game at Toronto early.
She scored 29 points in three quarters Tuesday, matching Wilson's record with her 20th straight 20-point game as Indiana beat Toronto 101-95. Mitchell did not play in the fourth quarter.
Fever coach Stephanie White said after the game that Mitchell overheated. It was the second straight game Indiana played in a building White described as hot.
Mitchell appeared on the injury report Thursday with an illness and was listed as probable. Indiana cleared her to play before the game.
The 30-year-old Mitchell has played her entire WNBA career with the Fever since Indiana selected her with the second pick in the 2018 draft.
She came into Thursday averaging 24.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game. Mitchell was shooting 50.7% overall and 44.3% from beyond the arc. She has been selected to four All-Star teams.
Mitchell surpassed her previous Fever single-season scoring record of 890 points, set in 2025, earlier this season. Indiana has seven games remaining.
The Fever visit New York on Saturday and play at Chicago on Sunday.
