Sparks coach Lynne Roberts addressed Cameron Brink's limited playing time after Los Angeles' 105-78 season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Aces.
Cameron Brink played 8 minutes, 3 seconds in the Los Angeles Sparks' 105-78 home-opening loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday at Crypto.com Arena.
Brink scored 0 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, committed 3 turnovers, and picked up 3 fouls. She played 3 minutes, 16 seconds in the first half and finished that half with 1 rebound, 2 turnovers, and 2 fouls.
Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts addressed Brink's playing time after the game.
"We need Cam to produce," Roberts said. "We need Cam to bring that defensive energy. We have so much confidence and belief in her. She's gotta get out on the floor with some confidence and do what she's capable of doing."
Brink entered the third quarter with under 2 minutes remaining. Her fourth-quarter minutes were limited as the score widened, and Roberts used second-year players and players on developmental contracts to finish the game.
Brink was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft out of Stanford. She started all 15 games she played as a rookie in 2024, averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.3 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game before tearing her left ACL in June. Brink returned in 2025 and appeared in 19 games off the bench, averaging 5.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 12.8 minutes.
The Sparks added Nneka Ogwumike and Ariel Atkins in the offseason and signed Kate Martin on a developmental contract. Los Angeles finished 21-23 in 2025, 2 games behind the eighth-seeded Golden State Valkyries for the final playoff spot.
Roberts also addressed early-season chemistry.
"Part of the beginning of the season, too, is figuring out rotations and chemistry and all the things," Roberts said. "We looked like we just, we didn't have a lot of floor chemistry out there. Vegas did. They've also played together for years, right? And it's not an excuse, but it's just a reality."
Ogwumike spoke after the game about the team's performance in front of the home crowd.
"I mean, I was feeling the feels, but all I can think about right now is how I feel like we disappointed the people that came to the home opener," Ogwumike said. "Before I left, like that just was not, that was not it. That's not the standard that we operate by."
The Aces were playing on the second night of a back-to-back after winning their season opener by 33 points.
