Los Angeles Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts pushed back on a narrative around forward Cameron Brink following Wednesday's 87-78 loss to the Indiana Fever.

Brink finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in nearly 19 minutes off the bench at Crypto.com Arena. She shot 4-of-6 from the field, 3-of-4 from the foul line, and 0-of-2 from three. Her 3 blocked shots led all players in the game.

Roberts interjected after Brink fielded a question about a slow start.

"She didn't have a slow start. We've played 2 games and she had a great game today. The narrative of 'What's going on with Cam?' Nothing. She's doing great. We gotta stop the narrative," Roberts said.

Brink shared the podium with guard Kelsey Plum and addressed her start to the season.

"I mean, you always got to be confident, right? My teammates aren't going to trust me if I don't believe in myself. Coaches, same thing," Brink said.

Brink expanded on the work she has done with the Sparks coaching staff.

"So, you know, I've had a slow start, but I'm putting in the work. The coaches, they work with me every day. We watch film, shootin' extra. I'm trying to work as hard as KP over here. So yeah, I'm just going to keep growing," Brink said.

Brink is averaging 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 13.5 minutes through two games this season. She is shooting 66.7% from the field, up from her career mark of 41.9%. Her career averages stand at 6.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 16.7 minutes across 36 games.

In the Sparks' season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Aces, Brink finished with 3 rebounds and 3 turnovers in 8 scoreless minutes off the bench.

The 2024 No. 2 overall pick is in her first full WNBA season after recovering from a torn left ACL.

The Sparks fell to 0-2 with the loss. Plum led Los Angeles with 25 points on Wednesday. Dearica Hamby added 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Los Angeles hosts the Toronto Tempo on Friday at Crypto.com Arena.
