Can Houston knot the series and reignite their season? Titans fans reveal their hopes and concerns for Sunday's critical matchup.

Since the Houston Texans (4-5) came into existence in 2002, the all time record between them and the Tennessee Titans (1-8) stands at 24-23 in favor of the latter.

If the Texans were to pull out a victory this Sunday, it would function to both knot up the franchise head to head record and completely reinvigorate their season by finally reaching .500 with improvements in health coming through the pipeline soon.

Speaking from the Titans' perspective, fan and host of the "Two Tone Talk Podcast" Bradley Steele joined the Texans Roundtable to provide insights into this week of preparation for the home team (@twotonetalk on Youtube, @twotone_podcast on X).

Clayton Anderson: After 10 weeks of play, what is the feeling in the Titans fanbase about Cam Ward's development thus far?

Bradley Steele: I would say the fanbases' feelings about Cam are mixed. As usual, there are some who have already declared him a bust because things haven’t gotten off to a great start, but I think the majority of fans understand he’s in an awful situation here with the coaching and roster. There are certainly things that Cam must get better at, but the Titans must do better around him as well. I think that’s where most fans are with that.

CA: Since former HC Brian Callahan's dismissal in mid-October, have there been any encouraging signs for the on-field product?

BS: There are certainly some areas where the offense has improved some under interim Head Coach Mike McCoy. The biggest issue with Callahan was that he seemed overwhelmed with the job. His in-game decision making reflected that he was in over his head. McCoy at least provides some semblance of stability, even if it hasn’t been good enough to win yet.

CA: At 1-8 with 8 games left, what do you think the fanbase is prioritizing right now heading into the final stretch?

BS: I think most fans are resigned to the fact that this is wholistically a bad roster who's inexperienced while also being led by a coaching staff that will all be gone in 2 months. Most fans just want to see improvement from Cam Ward especially, but also any rookies and/or second-year players. Regardless of final records, you’ve gotta see who you have that can be a good player for the next head coach. It's fine if that leads to a couple of extra wins here or there, but we at least wanna see those young guys improving.

CA: What are a couple of keys for a Titans victory come this Sunday?

BS: Offensive line has got to hang in there against the Texans front, and the Titans also have to get the run game going to help Cam Ward. He had one of his worst games of the season against Houston in week four.

CA: With QB C.J. Stroud still being out due to a concussion, how do you see the defense adjusting to backup QB Davis Mills and Co.?

BS: With the Titans trading two of their starting secondary players, and lack of depth at positions like OLB, the preparation should honestly be the same. They’ll have their hands full whether it’s Stroud or Mills. If Mills is able to carry over what he was doing in the fourth quarter against Jacksonville Sunday, the Titans might have their hands just as full with Mills as they would with Stroud.

Looking Ahead

As the Texans Roundtable discussed yesterday, Houston must avoid the temptation to take the Titans too lightly heading into Sunday. If they want to avoid the proverbial "trap game", head coach Demeco Ryans and co. must be alert to the level of urgency and hunger for change that the Titans might be operating with in their season finale at Nissan Stadium.

With Texans starting quarterback C.J. Stroud still being absent from practice this week due to lingering concussion symptoms, it's looking like backup quarterback Davis Mills will once again take the reigns of the Nick Caley-offense in search of back to back clutch victories.

Hopefully, this contest won't require a furious double-digit point comeback in the fourth quarter for Houston to leave Nashville with a victory.

Do you think the Texans finally eclipse .500 on their season? If so, how should they prepare on a short week knowing the Buffalo Bills (6-3) will be their next opponent next Thursday?
