Which Transfer Portal Standouts Could Fit Tulane's Wide Receivers Room? cover image

The Green Wave has seen a handful of wideouts enter the transfer portal, and there's now a major need to fill the gaps. Who could potentially be the next additions to Uptown?

It's no secret that the Tulane Green Wave needs to find a way to pick up some standout wide receivers in the transfer portal.

Shazz Preston and Omari Hayes are hitting the portal themselves and looking to find a home elsewhere. Bryce Bohanon and Tre Shackelford are looking to make it in the NFL. As of now, the only confirmed wideout from the 2025 season that will be around come August is freshman Oliver Mitchell, Jr.

The Green Wave desperately needs to lock down a few wideouts in the transfer portal, and quickly. Here's a look at a handful of current portal entries that could fit in well at Yulman Stadium.

Cade Wolford

Tulane seemed to thrive on downfield threats this season, and Wolford could be exactly what the team needs to keep that going.

The Kent State Golden Flashes transfer posted an FBS-leading 26.8 yards per catch this season with 509 total yards and seven touchdowns... as a freshman. It's a no-brainer that the Green Wave should at least give him a look.

However, there's been a bit of competition to get Wolford so far, as he's been offered by the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor Bears and a handful of other teams. The odds might not be in Tulane's favor for this one, but it never hurts to try -- especially coming off of an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Gavin Nelson

Nelson has exactly what the Green Wave needs -- experience.

The redshirt junior out of Monmouth might not be the biggest wideout, with a 6-foot-0, 180-pound frame, but he's got speed and athleticism. Nelson posted 30 catches for 5`14 yards and six touchdowns for the Hawks in 2025, and has amassed 1,256 yards in his career.

Nelson is primed for a jump to the American Conference, and he could undoubtedly play a key role on the team instantly.

Aeryn Hampton

Can the Alabama Crimson Tide to Tulane pipeline continue with Hampton? After all, Preston found major success from the change in scenery.

In his 2024 freshman season, Hampton recorded one catch for six yards and had limited appearances on special teams. He was poised to play a bigger role in 2025, but that's where things took a turn. Hampton hasn't been with the team since fall camp, but no reason for his absence has been given.

There's definitely potential, as long as his departure from the team wasn't for any sort of disciplinary or behavioral issue. Only time will tell, but it might be worth a shot to give him a chance.
