Ajax have identified Noa Lang as one of their top targets to replace Mika Godts should he leave, but the club are exploring deals for other targets, should a deal for Lang not be feasible.

Ajax have been very busy so far this summer, and it is expected to be a very busy few weeks in Amsterdam, especially in the event of Mika Godts' departure.

Ajax are closing in on a deal to sign Jofre Torrents, a 19-year-old left-back from Barcelona. A new right-back is also being targeted in case Anton Gaaei leaves. Eintracht Frankfurt no longer seem to be pursuing a deal for the Danish full-back, but there is said to be interest from other clubs.

A new defensive midfielder is also said to be a priority, and Edson Álvarez is Ajax's top target. The Mexican midfielder reportedly wants to return to Amsterdam, despite interest from German and Spanish clubs.

In attack, Ajax are actively looking for a replacement for Godts. Noa Lang has been identified as a prime target, and initial talks over a deal have been held over a potential deal. The former Ajax winger is keen on a return to Amsterdam. Godts' departure would also provide Ajax with the funds to strengthen the right wing, and the Amsterdammers are said to be interested in Roony Bardghji.

Ajax interested in Virgili

With Napoli reportedly demanding €25 million for Lang, Ajax are also considering other options, should a move for the Dutch winger fail to materialise.

According to Ultima Hora, Jan Virgili is one of the options being considered by Ajax to replace Godts. Jordi Cruijff knows the player well from his time working in Spain.

Ajax is considering a long list of candidates to replace Godts if he leaves, and Virgili appears to be one of the more affordable options. He has a €12 million release clause, which is significantly lower than what Napoli are demanding for Lang.

Mallorca want to keep Virgili, and the Spanish club is concerned by Ajax's interest. They are still awaiting a response to their contract offer to the winger. Virgili, however, is aware of interest from other clubs and therefore prefers to wait. Ajax is not the only club interested.

Is Virgili better value for money than Godts?

While Virgili will likely cost about half of what Lang would cost, Ajax's priority should still be the Dutch winger.

Godts is massively influential at Ajax, and the club therefore need to sign guaranteed quality to replace him, rather than potential. That being said, €25 million is a large sum of money, and Ajax should look to negotiate that down.

The signings of Julian Brandt and Marcos Leonardo will likely help replace a large amount of Godts' output, and Ajax could therefore possibly afford to sign a cheaper player on the left wing who is less proven, like Virgili, for example.

However, if Ajax do want to challenge PSV Eindhoven for the title, they need to go all out for Lang.
