Ajax are interested in signing a Watford midfielder, who is reportedly available for €10 million.
Ajax have already signed six players this summer, and the Amsterdammers could still sign up to five more players in the event Mika Godts departs, with Paris Saint-Germain very keen on signing the Belgian winger.
Ajax are looking to strengthen their attack, with Noa Lang a prime candidate to replace Godts, should his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain go through. Ajax have held initial talks over a deal for the Napoli winger, with both a permanent transfer and a loan deal being explored.
A right-winger is also on the agenda, as is a new right-back if Anton Gaaei departs. Ajax could also sign a new left-back and has been linked to Barcelona's 19-year-old Jofre Torrents.
A new defensive midfielder is also a top priority, as it was in January. In January, Ajax explored deals for a host of No. 6s, including Manuel Ugarte and Fred. Kodai Sano, who is now set to join PSV Eindhoven, was also a player Ajax tried very hard to sign, but NEC Nijmegen refused to sell. Ajax did not return this summer with another offer for the Japanese midfielder.
Ajax are now instead working on a deal to sign Edson Álvarez from West Ham United, and the Mexican midfielder is reportedly keen on a return to Amsterdam.
Ajax interested in Louza
Another player Ajax is showing an interest in is Watford's Imran Louza. The Moroccan midfielder registered seven goals and nine assists in the Championship last season and is attracting interest from the Eredivisie, Ligue 1 and the Premier League.
According to Sébastien Denis, Ajax are interested in signing the 27-year-old midfielder.
Crystal Palace has also enquired, and an unknown club is showing strong interest. Paris FC has also made contact over a deal for Louza, but must first sell players. OGC Nice is also interested, but a deal would be financially complicated for them.
Any deal for Louza is expected to cost in the region of €10 million.
Is Louza what Ajax need?
Louza can play everywhere in the midfield, but has often been used as a no. 8 at Watford. The data shows that he is an excellent passer who is extremely creative.
Ajax have signed Julian Brandt, but were also strongly interested in Azzedine Ounahi. Similarly to Louza, the Girona midfielder can play as both a no. 10 and a no. 8.
Ajax were in talks to sign Brandt for an extended period of time, and in addition to Ounahi, they also tried to sign Sven Mijnans before he went to PSV Eindhoven while working on a deal for Brandt. This shows that there may be a willingness to sign two attacking-minded midfielders, with Brandt being one of those, obviously.
Louza can also play as a no. 6, but his ability to create in the final third and the fact that his volume of defensive actions is quite low mean he is probably suited to a more advanced role.
