Fur Elise

The ABSRM piano exams has 8 grades from 1 to 8.

Those who have passed grade 8 are considered to have acquired the piano playing skills for someone who has no intentions of making music his career.

Those who want piano playing to be part of their career will usually do the diploma level and then the performer level 

Fur Elise is a piece that is often used as an exam piece of grade 5.

It is considered as a piece for intermediate students and so is not a difficult piece to learn.

A shorter and simplified version is sometimes used for beginners.

Given the above, Fur Elise is not a piece that experts are proud to play.

And yet Fur Elise was composed by the great composer Beethoven at a time when Beethoven was already well established and famous.

However it was not published untill many years after the death of Beethoven.

It is believed that Fur Elise is  not a serious work that Beethoven wrote. It is believed that Fur Elise was dedicated to Therese Malfatti, a woman Beethoven proposed to in 1810

Fur Elise was given the master's touch by one of the best of present day pianist, Lang Lang in the above video.

Lang Lang showed that a piece used for  intermediate student can be played in a beautiful way full of emotions.
