Engagement on taste or what we enjoy 🦋

Engagement on the posts in this community is low. This post is not about any particular song. Instead it hopes to stir engagement. When you listen to music what do you pay more attention to? The lyrics or the musical elements such as tune, melody, harmony etc.. Do you listen with your eyes closed so that you can concentrate better or do you like to watch the musicians/singers? What type of genre of music do you like? What is it about that genre that you like? Who are your favourite singers/musicians and why do you like them? Have your taste and interest changed over time? Does the music you listen to affect your mood? Please feel free to add more questions to the list so that we can have more discussion on this post. 🦋 pay a lot of attention to the lyrics.  🦋 like lyrics that are written like poems.  The poetry adds beauty to the lyrics. 🦋 also like  lyrics that convey a message. 🦋 Like to teach or write posts to bring out the message in songs. Eg He's ain't heavy, he's my brother. 🦋 is a HSP or highly sensitive person. Emotions in songs affect me more than for most people. 🦋 can see hurts that are buried in the lyrics and how the song writer or singer is hurting to the extent of being suicidal. 🦋 have written several post of such songs eg  - Sometimes when we touch.  - Starry, starry nightWhen 🦋 was young I did not listen to classical music and did not pay that much attention to lyrics. As a teenager, I developed a crush for 👩‍🔬C who enjoys classical music. So I started to listen to classical music. Some of them are nice. Among those composers that 🦋 enjoy are Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, Strauss. Pieces that have catchy parts that is repeated is easy to remember eg Eine Kleine Natchmusik, Fur Elise, Blue DanubeAs my brain is not a great as 👩‍🔬C's and able to fully appreciate classical music, I  started to listen intently to lyrics of songs rather than just shallowly enjoying the tune. I did not appreciate Chopin and found him boring until many years later when I heard Tiffany Poon. I became a fan of Tiffany and through her my enjoyment of classical music increased and widened to include more  composers. Alice Sara Ott is another pianist that I like. Perhaps the reason why I prefer Tiffany and Alice to fantastic pianists like Lang Lang and Yuja Wang is their personalities that grabs me. Violinists that I like include Cloe Chua, Karolina Protsenko, SoHyun KO. These 3 are young prodigies.  Others include Ray Chen, Hillary Han and the comedy duo, Two Set Violin. Singers or bands that I like include Lobo, Carpenters, John Denver, Bee Gees, Abba and many more in the genre of pop music or soft rock Gospel music is another genre I like as I pay attention to the lyrics. Gospel music ministers to my soul and spirit and is uplifting or comforting. I do not enjoy hard rock, heavy metal, jazz or bluesEngagement on this post will be appreciated. Thank you.

So Blessed to be able to select a grand piano that best fits the pieces to be played

Have you ever done a recording that involved a grand piano? Grand pianos are very expansive. If you want to do a recording that requires a piano, you will be overjoyed if someone who owns a well maintained grand piano allow you to use theirs. Tiffany Poon is so blessed that she could go to a Steinway showroom with a lot of grand pianos to select one that best suits the  pieces that she was going to record. Tiffany is a talented pianist who treats the pianos she plays on as friends and talks to them. Each piano is different and has its own voice. When she wanted to do a recording, she chose the grand piano that has the voice to suit the pieces to be recorded. Do you wonder why she had such a privilege? Tiffany is a Vlogger who makes videos of classical music. Steinway which is a premier brand of pianos chose her to be an ambassador of their brand.  They lent a grand piano to her and sent it to her apartment. She ❤️ that piano and makes videos of not just playing on it but also of her lying under the piano as she talks. Sometimes she makes videos of Steinway factories or showrooms. When she wanted to do a recording of a CD album, she could test many grand pianos to choose one that she likes. Tiffany is a pianist that 🦋 like very much. She is a warm kind hearted person  who is cute and sweet. 🦋 enjoy the videos that she makes. She brings out the human side of classical music.  Instead of showing us only the final product that is edited to remove any mistakes, she is willing to show behind the scenes videos with errors. The video often includes scenery of the places she goes to including animals. Food is often show in  her videos. Below is a video of Tiffany choosing the piano for the recording.   🦋

"Autumn Moon Over Calm Lake" on Guzheng

🦋 In  my write up on "Butterfly Lovers", I said that Guzheng music can be calming and produce a sense of peace. On the other hand, the Guzheng can also be played in such a way as to rouse emotions and make us exited or on fire. "Autumn Moon Over Calm Lake" is an example of calming music. Close your eyes, relax as you soak in the music in the video below. Imagine a full moon reflected in the still water of a lake. The occasional gentle breeze feels cooling and comfortable. The gentle breeze produces tiny ripples on the surface of the water that makes the image of the moon shimmer. If you are at such a location, what would you choose to do? Would you open your eyes to enjoy the beautiful sight? Or would you keep your eyes closed and fully relax and just soak in the music and the sense of peace? 🦋 will probably keep my eyes closed most of time. But when I feel the gentle breeze and know that it is painting a beautiful picture on the surface of the lake, 🦋 will open my eyes to enjoy the picture painted by the greatest artist of all, God who made the lake and the breeze. Contrast the calm and peace of the above song with the vibrancy of the song "Emperor Sun Quan" below. This song denotes the strength and drive of the emperor. The music is so suitable for the background music to a fighting scene. If you listen to the song with eyes closed can you imagine people fighting or soldiers on horses chasing after their foes desperately trying to escape on other horses? 🐎

Butterfly Lovers played on Guzheng

Guzheng is a traditional Chinese string instrument played by plucking with both hands. Other than the plucking of individual strings , 2 techniques used are what can be roughly compared to glissendo and vibrato. In the gliss, one hand will glide over strings in succession and so produce a smooth flow of changing notes. The vibrato is where one hand is alternately striking 2 strings repeatedly. This 2 techniques are sometimes employed simultaneously. One when doing the gliss while the other hand is doing the vibrato. The effect is what I call (I am not musically trained and so the terms I used may not be correct) a captivating harmony of the  two techniques. My visual identity in BBS is 🦋, so I have chosen the song "Butterfly Lovers" to introduce Guzheng music to this community. Butterfly Lovers is a classical song that is a tragic love story like Romeo and Juliet. The spirit of the lovers turned into butterflies 🦋🦋 Have you heard Guzheng music before? Do you like the music it produces? There is a belief that there is a spiritual element in Guzheng music. It can be calming and produce a sense of peace. It can also rouse up emotions. An example of calming Guzheng music is in the song "Autumn Moon Over Calm Lake" There are stories of battles between two persons playing Guzhengs. The music can physically harm the players or even kill one of them. I do not know if such folklore is true. Perhaps those who are knowledgeable can comment and enlighten us. 🦋
