Venkatesh Iyer-Impact Player rule has lessened the utility of all-rounders

Apr 20, 2023 10:22 AM

The rule called "impact player" bothers me. It's like one team gets an extra player on the field. I think it's fairer if teams can choose their players after a coin toss. Maybe they could use this rule only a few times to make it more interesting.

Right now, teams can keep batting until only one player is left and it's almost impossible to defend scores below 180. If this keeps happening, India's all-rounder players will run out in 5 years or when players like Jadeja and Pandya are at their best.

Even though it might be fun at first, I don't think the impact player rule is a good idea in the long run. In white ball cricket, having a player who can both bat and bowl well is very important.
