How Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones approached the Micah Parsons extension in the offseason is still being talked about.
Jerry wanted to circumvent Micah's agent, David Mulugheta, and it all ultimately got messy, and Parsons is a Green Bay Packer.
But if Cowboys fans thought we had seen the last of that sort of negotiation, they are sadly mistaken.
Mulugheta also represents Pro Bowl receiver George Pickens, and No. 3 is in the final year of his rookie deal. So, an extension is forthcoming this offseason.
The franchise tag for George is roughly $28 million APY, but will Jerry take the same approach with George and Mulugheta as he did with Micah?
"I don't know, we'll see how it goes, probably both, but I certainly expect to be speaking with George," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.
Leopards don't change their spots.
But Jerry did state "probably" both, which could be a hint that maybe Mr. Jones will bring the agent in on talks with Pickens.
With the Cowboys able to offer Pickens a CeeDee Lamb-like contract, after his performances that saw George be heavily criticized for his demeanor on the field, the thought is that Dallas wants to get another year of evaluation on Pickens before giving that big contract.
Hence, the franchise tag, at least right now, looms as the easiest solution to keep George around in 2026.

It does feel like a no-brainer to get Pickens back for next season, but then again, most of us thought Micah would still be a Cowboy.
So, it will be yet another offseason in which a big contract dominates the Cowboys' offseason, just as Jerry likes it.

And much like Parsons' contract talks, don't expect this to be tied up in a neat little bow before training camp.
This will likely be a long, drawn-out process.
Why? You already know the answer to that.
