There's no other way to put it: Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens is going through a slump.
After recently obliterating the league for three straight games, all of which were nationally televised, to the tune of 144, 146, 88 yards and two touchdowns from 24 receptions, the last two weeks George has disappeared.
The performance in a loss against the Detroit Lions drew a lot of criticism, with Pickens totaling 37 yards from five receptions, as his effort on several plays was questioned.
Then, in another loss against the Minnesota Vikings, George was virtually anonymous, finishing the game with 33 yards from three receptions.
Just two weeks removed from being talked about as the NFL's best receiver, and potentially a payday worth in excess of $30 million APY, now Pickens' future seems less certain to some.
But when asked whether the last two games have changed his desire to bring back Pickens next year, owner Jerry Jones gave a defiant answer.
"No," Jones said on 105. 3 The Fan.
There's no doubt that Pickens' performance over the last two weeks will be in the back of Jerry's mind when it comes to the sort of money George could be offered in the coming months.
The franchise tag looms as the most likely avenue Dallas will go down with Pickens; our Mike Fisher has already reported that a source tells him that's "the easy plan.''
Doing so gives Pickens $28 million for 2026 and gives them another year to fully evaluate him before making a long-term commitment.
But as far as what Pickens put on tape against the Vikings, was Jerry satisfied?
"Well, let's put it like this, they did a good job of mitigating him, and it was effective,” Jerry said. “As his effort, I would have liked to see him make a few of those outstanding catches that he makes, but I'd like to have seen Dak with more time to get him the ball.
"That was the main concern. That was the main reason that he probably wasn't more productive is just the way we were schemed and the pressure that Dak got.”
(As a sidebar: Is it really that easy to "scheme'' a top-10 receiver - and by the numbers, Pickens is that - into NFL invisibility?)
The next three weeks will be interesting to see how George navigates this tricky patch and builds on a thrill-filled All-Pro-level season that's got him with 81 catches for 1,212 yards and eight TDs.

Will he find a way out of this slump and return to the level of play that saw him making positive headlines every weekend?
Or will his first season as a Cowboy end in a harmless puff of smoke after setting the league on fire?
Either way, it doesn't appear that Jerry's mind will be changed one way or the other when it comes to Pickens being a Cowboy in 2026.
