Robinson Ortiz has caught the attention of Baseball America.

Brady Farkas on the M's breakout prospects for 2026.

Last week, Baseball America released its Top 100 prospect rankings ahead of the 2026 season, and they said that the Seattle Mariners have four Top 100 prospects. MLB Pipeline also released its Top 100 prospects, saying that the M's have seven.

Regardless of which outlet you believe, it's clear that the future is bright for the Mariners, and there are other prospects and minor leaguers that aren't being talked much about yet too.

On Monday, Baseball America released its list of three M's minor leaguers who could breakout in 2026, including one recent trade acquisition.

Here's what you need to know:

LHP Robinson Ortiz#

Acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, Ortiz is not a typical prospect. At 26 years old, he has a real chance to contribute meaningful innings at the big league level. He went 5-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 48 minor league appearances in 2025, striking out 72 in 59.1 innings.

He's unfortunately dealt with a lot of injuries in his career, as he made just four appearances in 2021 and then missed all of 2022 and 2023. He made only six appearances in 2024. He made 15 appearances each at Double-A and Triple-A in 2025, suggesting that if he can stay healthy, he might not be far from a big league call-up.

The Mariners do have two lefties already in Gabe Speier and Jose Ferrer, so it will be interesting to see how Ortiz fits into that mix.

SS Nick Becker#

A second round draft pick of the Mariners in 2025, Becker hails from New York. He played six games for Single-A Modesto after getting drafted, hitting .208. He figures to begin the season at Single-A again, though the M's have shifted their affiliate to Inland Empire.

He is ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the organization by Baseball America.

SS Leandro Romero#

Now 19 years old, Romero has spent back-to-back seasons in the Dominican Summer League. He hit .304 in 42 games in 2025, popping nine home runs and driving in 35. He stole six bases. He figures to come to the United States this season and should pair with Becker at Inland Empire.

Also on the prospect front#

The Mariners are already in agreement with a pair of high-priced international prospects from the Class of 2027. Our own Teren Kowatsch covered that here. Both players will get bonuses of more than $3.5 million.
