Purchase Profit Distribution

We’ve been listening to feedback from the community regarding recent updates.

With 3.2.2 we’ll be reinstating the publisher’s share of the profits from post purchases.

1st purchase - 50% to post publisher, 50% goes back to the community (burnt).

2nd purchase & beyond - The previous purchase amount is returned to the previous post owner, and the rest (the additional 30% above last purchase price) is distributed as follows:

  • 33% to previous post owner (in addition to their purchase price refund)
  • 33% to the post publisher
  • 33% goes back to the community (burnt)

Bonus Reward Updates & Comment Tipping

3.2.2 introduces new changes to bonus rewards:

  • Thumbs-Up bonuses removed
  • Daily Visit bonus raised to $1
  • Comment tipping implemented

Thumbs-up bonuses were a common target for fraudulent actors, and do not convey direct support from the community to commenters or publishers. With the new comment tipping feature, the community will be able to provide direct support to deserving commenters.

To ensure engagement is still rewarded, along with publishers receiving a share of the purchase profits, we’ve increased the bonus reward of daily visits to $1 CC.

These changes place the incentivization of a post back within the post itself, and offers a way for the community to directly support active commenters and those who engage with posts.

A comment’s current tips are shown underneath the comment itself. Tips earned are not cashable, but can be used to tip others or purchase posts. In order to tip a user’s comment, the tip button can be used to select a tip amount:

Tips can be made in $0.1, $0.5, or $1 community currency, and tips can be made multiple times to a single comment.

All tip activity can be viewed in a board’s Activity page, allowing moderation teams to easily ensure that activity is organic.

Engagement Mining Subsidies

Another change implemented is the way the platform handles the subsidization of ad campaigns with the Engagement Mining program. Previously, the Engagement Mining program would boost the ad’s CPM rate to $50. Now, the Engagement Mining program will add $50 CPM to the ad campaign’s rate.

This means if an ad campaign runs for $5 CPM, the Engagement Mining program will add $50 CPM on top of that, making the total CPM $55. This will allow the community to earn at a higher rate from subsidized ad campaigns

As with most updates, we’ve also added some performance upgrades to the web application to help facilitate a smoother user experience.
