Transition 4 of the Engagement Mining program is here!

The current criteria for Engagement Mining approval can be found here:

Requirements

To be considered for Engagement Mining approval, boards must meet the following qualifications and apply via the linked post above.

  • BBS must focus around a popular topic. - A good measurement for a topic’s popularity would be the engagement it generates in similar platforms
  • On-topic Posts (at least 10 posts by unique users) - Meta-posts (posts about the board or community rather than its topic) are not counted
  • BBS consistently generates high-quality on-topic discussion  - A good comparison would be top subreddits on similar topics  - Top posts on the board should generate high-quality discussion
  • BBS only partners high-quality top contributing members  - Top contributors measured according to their reputation, quality of their posts/comments, and the meaningful engagement/discussion they spark or contribute.
  • BBS monitors and mitigates any fraudulent activity, and maintains a healthy activity distribution
  • BBS must reflect well on the BBS Network
  • Approved boards must not maintain Partnership as a primary focus for members.

Further details around these requirements can be found in this post. Boards are required to maintain these requirements to maintain their approval, and some boards will also be removed in this transition.

Please note that changes to Engagement Mining approvals will take effect with the next automated distribution.

The Future of the Engagement Mining Program

As BBS Network grows and evolves, so must the Engagement Mining program evolve alongside it.

The Engagement Mining program exists to both subsidize early network revenue and fuel initial network growth. With the previous release of Version 4.0 and the numerous updates there have been many improvements to the network’s software and project direction. These improvements have led to the need to also tune the Engagement Mining program rewards to better fit the network direction and focus.

As we move forward we will soon be looking at implementing changes to the Engagement Mining reward distribution, primarily how the program determines how to distribute the sum of rewards. The Engagement Mining program exists to fuel early growth, and therefore should also best reward those approved boards who most heavily contribute to said growth.

We are exploring considerations for changing the formula of a board’s Score, being the primary factor in reward distribution. Currently it’s based on an average of impressions the board received, but we are exploring implementing a mixed formula based on several board metrics including board growth, new signups, user activity, and more. This can be combined with a new distribution mechanic, where boards that better contribute to this growth can be provided a higher CPM by the Engagement Mining program, providing a dynamic scaling for rewards.

We’d like to hear the community’s thoughts on these possible implementations, or others that may be available. What sort of measurable metrics should be considered when analyzing a contribution of a board to the network’s growth?
