Well, it isn't all praise for Julian Sayin. Andrew Perloff, former mainstay on the Dan Patrick Show, made a crazy claim about Sayin on Wednesday

The talk surrounding the Heisman Trophy is beginning to pick up steam with little over a month left in the 2025 regular season, and for the first time in the last couple of weeks, a "Julian Sayin hater" has identified himself this week.

Andrew Perloff, formerly of the Dan Patrick Show and now cohost of "Maggie and Perloff", gave the first contrarian take to Sayin's Heisman campaign. When discussing the award on Wednesday, Perloff made a bold claim, stating "how could people vote for Julian Sayin?"

There is a lot of Heisman Hype, but how hard is his job? Let's be realistic. I mean, Penn State, that means nothing... How could people vote for Julian Sayin? They are in the Big Ten, who are they going to beat? How do you know what this actually means until he plays a good team and he is throwing to the greatest wide receiving corps that we have ever seen... well, since last three years of Ohio State... It's hard to distinguish Julian Sayin from Jeremiah Smith.

There is a lot to unpack in that soundbite from Perloff, as some of the take is on target, while some completely miss the mark.

Evaluating Sayin's resume for the Heisman Trophy, there is no reason to claim that his Big Ten Conference schedule should play a factor into voting. He can only compete against the teams on the schedule, and by this logic, both Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza and his teammate, Jeremiah Smith, would also be disqualified.

On the other side of that coin, Ohio State's opponents have largely turned into a pumpkin the entire season. Their stiffest test was the program's week one win against the preseason No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns, who have turned into a decent team this year, but also have a loss to the Florida Gators on their resume.

The Big Ten has become incredibly lopsided, as the two best teams in the conference are National Championship contenders. However, there is a clear gap between tier one and two, which features the Oregon Ducks and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Outside of those programs, tiers three and four are a collection of bad football teams.

Luckily for the redshirt freshman, he has found a way to compete every week and lead his team to a perfect 8-0 record.

Throughout the course of the 2025 season, Sayin has completed a remarkable 80.7 percent of his attempts, which is hard to do at any level. He has shown the ability to be surgical at all three levels of the field, but the hidden truth is that he is throwing to the best collection of wide receivers that College Football has ever seen.

Sayin's case study is an interesting one, but in reality, the Heisman Award means nothing to him or his head coach, Ryan Day. The Buckeyes have their eyes set on a run to the National Championship, and which is seemingly the only thing Ohio State is focused on for the rest of the season.
