New York Knicks Players Respond to Fans' Boos in Loss to Mavericks cover image

The New York Knicks heard it from their home crowd on Monday in a blowout loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

The New York Knicks lost their fourth straight game on Monday, with the Dallas Mavericks picking up a 114-97 victory.

It was the second straight game where the Knicks failed to crack 100 points and their second straight loss at home.

It was also the second straight game where the crowd at Madison Square Garden booed the hometown team for their effort.

"You spend $140 or more to represent your favorite player with a jersey. You come to MLK Day here at The Garden, and tickets are twice or three times the price. You spend your hard-earned money. I'd be disappointed too," said Karl-Anthony Towns.

Towns said that the fans spend their money and give them so much love and motivation, and they expect results. Towns said the team expects results, too.

"Fans are doing their part, we have to do our part," said Towns.

Mike Brown Comments

Head coach Mike Brown was also asked about the boos coming from the MSG faithful.

"I'm okay with the boos. If we're playing crappy, boo. If I was in the stands, I'd probably boo, too," said Brown. "They know good basketball, they know bad basketball. We didn't play good basketball in the first half."

Brown, much like Towns, noted that fans pay their hard-earned money to come to games, and they are within their right to boo.

19,812 fans were in attendance for the game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Knicks never led against the Mavericks on Monday and trailed by as many as 30 points. The blowout loss came two days after a loss to the Suns, where the Knicks led at the half, but were outscored 51-43 in the second half.

The Knicks Slide

Much has been made of the Knicks play over the past three weeks, and there are more questions than answers.

They were 23-9 going into an NBA Cup Finals rematch against the San Antonio Spurs. Since December 31st, they've won just two games, and their record sits at 25-18.

Josh Hart returned from injury, Jalen Brunson only missed a couple of games, and they've had good health with Towns, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby.

In January, they have a -9.0 net rating, which is only better than the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz. Their offensive rating is 109.4, 26th in the league, while their defensive rating is 118.4, 27th in the league.

They are the only team in the league to be in the bottom five of both categories for the month of January.
