The Alpine driver said the new generation of cars will require a different mindset at the Belgian track. He also announced that he will organize the fourth edition of the "Run For Anthoine" in memory of his friend who passed away in 2019.
Pierre Gasly has shared his expectations for the Belgian Grand Prix, the Alpine driver said that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is one of the most special events on the calendar and that the new generation of 2026 cars will require a different mindset to tackle the long straights and fast corners of the Belgian track: "I'm looking forward to the weekend at Spa, as it's one of the most special events on the calendar for many reasons. As a track, it has some of the best corners of the season and presents one of the biggest challenges we face behind the wheel" said the Frenchman.
Gasly explained that energy management will be key at Spa-Francorchamps: "We are going to have to approach the lap with a somewhat different mindset with the current generation of cars and with part of the energy management we will have to do, due to the nature of the circuit, with long straights and fast and flowing corners, we probably have to go there with a very open mind and try to arrive with some ideas up our sleeves to maximize track time" said the driver.
The French driver trusts that Alpine can have a good performance at Spa and that the variety on the grid will be greater: "I'm sure we'll see some variety on the grid and in the order, I'm determined to achieve a better performance than in some previous races and to take the fight to our rivals in the championship, which is now extremely tight" said Gasly.
Alpine arrives in Belgium at a key moment of the season. The French team sits fifth in the constructors' championship with 60 points, but Racing Bulls is just one point behind after Silverstone. Gasly and his teammate Franco Colapinto need to score points at Spa to maintain their position and stop the Faenza team's push.
The Frenchman also referred to the emotional aspect of returning to Spa, where his friend Anthoine Hubert passed away in 2019 during a Formula 2 race: "There's also the emotional side of coming back to Spa year after year, as I, among many others, remember Anthoine, I'm organizing again the 'Run For Anthoine' on Thursday night, the fourth time this special gathering takes place, as we fondly remember all the memories with him" declared Gasly.
The "Run For Anthoine" has become a tradition in the Spa paddock, and Gasly hopes that this year's participation will be even greater. The Alpine driver seeks to pay tribute to his friend and keep his memory alive at the circuit where he lost his life.
