Despite not scoring points, the Mexican considers that his personal performance in 2026 has been among the best of his career.

Sergio Pérez has surprised with a self-evaluation that defies the results. The Mexican driver, who has not managed to score a single point in his first season with Cadillac, has described his personal performance in 2026 as one of the best of his career in Formula 1, without a doubt a statement that may seem contradictory if one looks only at the standings, but that the man from Guadalajara justifies with arguments that go beyond the numbers.

"I think this has been one of my best years in Formula 1, if not the best in terms of my driving level," Pérez declared in a recent interview. The Mexican considers that he has extracted the maximum from a car that was not up to the level of his rivals and that he has demonstrated an adaptability that few drivers could match: "When you have a car that is not competitive, it is easy to fall into frustration and make mistakes. I have managed to maintain concentration and give the best of myself in every race, regardless of the circumstances," he added.

Pérez also highlighted his role in building the Cadillac project. The Mexican, who joined the American team in its debut season, has been a key piece in the car's development and in guiding the team towards the future: "It's not only about what you do on track but also about what you contribute off it. I have worked side by side with the engineers to identify the areas for improvement and help the team progress. That is also part of being a Formula 1 driver," he explained.

Despite the lack of points, Pérez shows himself optimistic about the future. Cadillac recently announced the incorporation of Mike Elliott as the new technical director, a signing that the Mexican considers an important step for the team: "Mike's arrival is great news; his experience at Mercedes and his knowledge of Formula 1 are going to help us make a leap in quality. I am sure that next year we will be more competitive," he stated.

The Mexican also wanted to thank the team and the fans for their support throughout a difficult season: "I want to thank everyone who has trusted in me and in this project. It has been a hard year, but I am convinced that we are building something important. The results will come," he noted. Pérez, who will turn 37 in 2027, has a contract with Cadillac for next season and faces the future with the same enthusiasm as on day one.

His self-evaluation, although it may seem surprising, reflects the maturity of a driver who has learned to value his performance beyond the results. In a newly formed team where the car's lack of competitiveness is evident, Pérez's ability to stay motivated and squeeze every tenth is an invaluable asset.

Cadillac trusts him to lead the project toward better times, and the Mexican is determined to show that his best is yet to come. The 2027 season will be a new opportunity to confirm that this has indeed been one of his best years as a driver.
