The American, third driver for the British team, will take part in his third FP1 session of the season at Spa-Francorchamps. Crawford will take Fernando Alonso's seat, fulfilling the third of the four mandatory practice sessions for rookie drivers.
Aston Martin has confirmed that its third driver, Jak Crawford, will take part in another free practice session (FP1) at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix. The 21 year old American will take Fernando Alonso's seat at the Spa-Francorchamps track, fulfilling the third of the four mandatory practice sessions for rookie drivers that Formula 1 requires from each team.
Crawford has made two FP1 appearances so far this season, the first in Japan, where he drove Alonso's car, and the second in Austria, where he replaced Lance Stroll. The American also took part in two sessions for the team in the final part of the 2025 season, accumulating experience and familiarizing himself with the British team's car.
The news comes after Crawford appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he completed the famous hill climb aboard the 2025 AMR25. The young driver has also taken part in tests for Aston Martin, including a recent Pirelli tire test in Barcelona during the month of June, which has allowed him to accumulate valuable kilometers and data for the team.
Crawford finished runner-up in the Formula 2 championship in 2025 with four wins and eight podiums while racing for DAMS Lucas Oil. His performance in the junior category convinced Aston Martin to sign him as a third driver and allow him to drive a Formula 1 car in official sessions.
The American has adapted quickly to the AMR26 and has shown good pace in the FP1 sessions he has contested. Aston Martin trusts that his experience and feedback will be valuable for the car's development and for the preparation of race weekends.
Crawford's participation in FP1 in Belgium is an opportunity for the young driver to accumulate more experience at the wheel of a Formula 1 car on a demanding circuit like Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian track, with its fast corners and elevation changes, is one of the drivers' favorites and represents a significant technical challenge.
Aston Martin hopes that the upgrades it will introduce at the Hungarian Grand Prix and at Zandvoort will allow the team to take a step forward in the second half of the season. Crawford, meanwhile, continues his development program and prepares for his next opportunity at the wheel of the AMR26.
Crawford will continue to accumulate experience in FP1 in Belgium, a key opportunity for his development. Aston Martin trusts that his feedback and progression will contribute to the team's growth for the coming seasons.
