The British driver acknowledged that the American team cannot keep up with its rivals' development pace. Haas has gone six races without scoring points and has been overtaken by Alpine and Racing Bulls in the midfield.
Oliver Bearman has acknowledged that Haas is facing financial difficulties to compete with its rivals in Formula 1. The British driver admitted that the American team cannot keep up with the development pace of other teams in the new engine era that began in 2026: "We are actually in a slightly different situation to other teams. It's also difficult to keep up with them financially" declared Bearman in an interview given to GRANDE PRÊMIO during the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Haas driver explained that budget constraints have limited the team's ability to introduce updates: "This is a new era of cars, and any upgrade you manage to implement as quickly as possible helps with future development, regardless of the budget cap limitations" he stated. Bearman highlighted that the evolution pace in the new era is much faster than in previous years.
Haas has had a promising start to the season, but the team has been overtaken by Alpine and Racing Bulls in the midfield. Bearman is on a six race streak without scoring points, and his best result of the season was a fifth place in China: "It's just one of the restrictions we face, and we're doing our best" added the Briton.
Bearman also referred to the difference in the development pace compared to the previous season: "This scenario of a new era, with such an accelerated pace of evolution, ends up exposing our weaknesses a little more, something that didn't happen last year, when the development pace wasn't even a quarter of what it is now" he explained.
The American team has suffered in recent races, especially after the first major upgrades introduced in Canada also increased driving difficulties for the drivers. In Spa, the team introduced a new front wing and revised nose mounts, but the upgrades have not been enough to return to the fight for points.
Haas has seen all its rivals update their cars in recent months, catching and surpassing the American team in the championship. The team is seventh in the constructors' championship with 21 points, far behind Racing Bulls and Alpine.
Bearman trusts that the team can improve in the second half of the season, but acknowledges that the financial limitations make the path harder: "It's not something we do on purpose, thinking about the long term" he stated.
Haas's situation reflects the reality of teams with fewer resources in modern F1. The budget cap has reduced the gap, but it has not eliminated it completely. Teams like Alpine and Racing Bulls have known how to invest their resources better, while Haas has been left behind in the development war.
Bearman trusts that the team can turn the situation around, but he knows it won't be easy. The second half of the season will be key to defining Haas's future in the midfield, and the Dutch GP will be the first test to measure their capacity for reaction and progress.
Formula 1 will resume activities of the 2026 season from August 21 to 23 with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Haas hopes to be able to take a step forward and score points again.
