Last year Lego and Formula One’s collaboration took the internet by storm with the drivers' parade at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, this year it returns at the 2026 British Grand Prix.

Instead of the expected drivers' parade in which the grid goes around the tracks participating in interviews and waving from a variety of vehicles, from trailers to classic cars and American trucks, this collaboration has the drivers taking a more hands-on approach.

Miami’s Lego Car Race

In 2025, Lego’s team of 26 designers, engineers, and builders assembled ten life sized Lego Formula One cars made of almost 400,000 pieces in which the drivers drove for one lap around Miami’s track.

Each car had a camera attached to it facing the cockpit catching the driver’s smiles and commentary as they went wheel to wheel with gridmates in the other fragile cars.

Some drivers such as Mercedes’ George Russell had more of an aggressive driving style while completing the lap, racing and colliding, sending pieces of the cars onto the track.

The Lego cars may look like an F1 car but the resemblance does not roll over into speed or weight. The cars weigh in at 3,306.93 pounds, which is nearly double the weight of an actual Formula One car as they can’t weigh more than 1,763.7 pounds under regulations.

Drivers were racing at slightly lower speeds before the race as the Lego cars could only go up to 12 miles per hour, just a fraction of the speeds they would be reaching later that day during the race.

Reaction

Fans all across the internet absolutely loved the fun-filled drivers parade and the Lego collab, watching the drivers' reactions live from the cameras on the cars.

Not only was it entertaining for the fans but some drivers across the grid were loving the light and fun break on a stressful race day.

Other drivers such as Max Verstappen had more critical things to say about the choice of vehicle and the lack of professionalism in it.

Regardless of differing opinions, fans were begging for more and the teams at Lego and Formula One listened.

Renewed for the 2026 British Grand Prix

This weekend at the British Grand Prix the drivers' parade will consist of 22 Lego karts, one for each of the drivers to complete a lap around the iconic Silverstone track.

The karts are made of over 28,000 pieces each and weigh in around 617 pounds, which is 81% lighter than the 1:1 scale model cars used in Miami in 2025.

The karts will also be ever so slightly faster than the ones at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, adding just 3.5 miles per hour more to the top speed of last year’s drivable Lego cars.
