Carlos Sainz has agreed to a multi year renewal with Williams, one day after Alex Albon confirmed his continuity at the British team for 2027. The Grove team has thus secured its driver lineup for next year with the Spaniard and the Thai as its main drivers: "I am delighted to announce my continuity in the Williams team family" declared Sainz.
The Spaniard joined Williams in 2025 after his departure from Ferrari and although he stopped fighting for wins, he added two podiums and helped the team climb to fifth position in the constructors' championship. The 2026 season has been more complicated, but Sainz trusts the long term project: "I believe in the people that make up this team, both in the factory and on the tracks, and in the investments and hard work that are happening behind the scenes" he stated.
James Vowles, Williams team principal, highlighted Sainz's importance to the project: "From the moment he joined, Carlos's talent behind the wheel and his dedication in the factory have been extremely valuable to this project, working day after day with his engineers to find every thousandth of a second. He is a leader of this team and I am delighted that he can see what is possible as we continue to rebuild it" declared Vowles.
The Briton praised Sainz's work off the track: "It is not only his ability behind the wheel and his speed that stand out, but the work he does behind the scenes in the pursuit of high performance. Carlos shares the belief and ambition we have in the team and pushes every day to achieve it" stated Vowles.
Sainz's renewal completes Williams' lineup for 2027, with the Spaniard and Albon as one of the most stable duos on the grid: "Together with Alex, I think we have one of the strongest lineups on the grid and a team capable of fighting for every gram of performance together" concluded the executive.
Sainz has been open about the setbacks that have led him to score only six points in the first half of the season, with his best result being ninth place in China, Miami and Canada. The Spaniard hopes that the upgrade package Williams will introduce at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will allow them to fight for top 10 positions more regularly.
