Adam Scott fires a 65 with two eagles as Justin Thomas joins a crowded Baycurrent Classic leaderboard, setting up a dramatic Sunday finish in Japan with eight in contention.
Adam Scott hasn't celebrated a PGA Tour victory in more than six years. That drought could finally end Sunday.
The former Masters champion delivered one of Saturday's most impressive performances at the Baycurrent Classic, shooting a bogey-free, 6-under 65 at Yokohama Country Club to move within one stroke of the lead entering the final round.
Justin Thomas is right there with him, creating a potentially explosive finish to the PGA Tour's only Asian stop of the 2026 season.
Scott and Thomas share fourth place at 12-under 201, just behind a three-way tie featuring Jacob Bridgeman, Michael Brennan and Zach Bauchou at 13-under 200.
And nobody's running away with this tournament.
Eight players are separated by a single stroke, leaving Sunday's championship completely up for grabs.
Scott, a 14-time PGA Tour winner, put together a round that reminded golf fans why he's been one of the sport's most respected ball-strikers for more than two decades.
The 46-year-old Australian recorded two spectacular eagles on the front nine, including a hole-out from 97 yards on the par-4 ninth. Earlier, he chipped in for eagle at the par-5 sixth.
Those two shots helped Scott match the lowest round of the day.
“It was a good round of golf. There was some fun stuff happening out there, a hole-out and a pitch-in, so that always helps,” Scott said.
His last PGA Tour victory came at the 2020 Genesis Invitational. Sunday's final round offers an opportunity to end that frustrating stretch.
Thomas, himself a two-time major champion, posted a 4-under 67 to remain firmly in contention.
He's joined at 12 under by Scott, Stephan Jaeger, Keith Mitchell and Jordan Smith.
Meanwhile, Brennan made his own statement Saturday with a 65, matching Scott's score and climbing into a share of first.
Bridgeman, who opened the tournament with a sizzling 63, remained atop the leaderboard despite shooting 69. Bauchou added a 67 to complete the leading trio.
The Baycurrent Classic has attracted a strong FedExCup Fall field, including 13 players who competed in the Presidents Cup at Medinah two weeks ago.
With five accomplished challengers sitting directly behind the leaders, there's little room for mistakes.
For Scott, however, this weekend represents something bigger than another respectable finish. It's a chance to prove his winning days aren't finished. And after Saturday's performance, betting against him might be a dangerous proposition.
