Alex Fitzpatrick’s PGA TOUR life keeps getting better after Zurich, as a bogey-free 66 put him near the Cadillac Championship lead at Doral.
Alex Fitzpatrick’s sudden PGA TOUR breakthrough isn’t slowing down at the Cadillac Championship.
One week after winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his brother Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex carried that momentum to Trump International Doral, where he fired a bogey-free 6-under 66 on Friday.
The round moved him to 6 under through 36 holes and put him firmly in the mix at one of the PGA TOUR’s $20 million Signature Events.
Not bad for a player who, until last weekend, expected to be playing on the DP World Tour in Turkey this week.
The Zurich Classic win changed everything. Fitzpatrick earned PGA TOUR membership with the victory, quickly rerouted his plans from Europe to Miami and suddenly found himself testing his game against one of the strongest fields of the season.
So far, he looks comfortable.
After an even-par 72 on Thursday that included five birdies and five bogeys, Fitzpatrick cleaned everything up in Round 2.
He made six birdies, avoided the costly mistakes and showed the kind of control that can travel under pressure.
Fitzpatrick said the emotions from winning with Matt still haven’t fully worn off, but his focus has clearly shifted to proving he belongs.
He’s talked about feeling more in command of his ball-striking, and Friday’s score backed it up.

For Alex Fitzpatrick, this season already has the feel of a career-changing year. The PGA TOUR card is secured, the bigger events are now on the schedule and the confidence is building fast.
Now comes the real test: the weekend at Doral. If Fitzpatrick keeps finding fairways and greens, his first solo PGA TOUR statement could arrive much sooner than anyone expected.
