Jordan Spieth opened the Cadillac Championship with a 7-under 65 at Doral after making major equipment changes.

Jordan Spieth returned to Trump National Doral looking like a different person off the course, but a familiar force on it.

Spieth opened the Cadillac Championship with a 7-under 65 on Thursday, putting himself one shot behind Cameron Young after the first round of the PGA TOUR Signature Event.

Back at Doral for the first time since 2016, the 32-year-old father of three looked sharp, comfortable and very much in contention.

The round had plenty of classic Spieth moments. He played his opening nine in bogey-free 31 and delivered the highlight of the day at the par-5 eighth, holing out from 53 yards for eagle.

Two back-nine bogeys could have slowed him down, but Spieth answered with four birdies.

It was a strong start at a course he still respects. Doral’s Blue Monster remains long, windy and demanding, with water and firm decisions waiting on nearly every miss.

Spieth said driving accuracy and ball control are still essential there.

This version of Spieth is also embracing change. Earlier in the week, he made a rare equipment shakeup, switching his driver, 3-wood and golf ball.

He moved into a Titleist GT2 driver and GT2 3-wood while changing to the 2026 Pro V1x Left Dash, hoping to reduce spin after seeing too many iron shots come up short over the past year-plus.

So far, the results are encouraging.

Spieth entered the week with four top-15 finishes in 10 starts this season, including a T12 at the Masters, and has missed just one cut.

His climb back inside the top 50 in the world has made his 2026 form worth watching.

Ten years ago, Spieth came to Doral as one of golf’s brightest young stars. Now, he’s a veteran chasing consistency, confidence and another Sunday run. Thursday’s 65 was a strong reminder that he’s still dangerous.
