Bryson DeChambeau withdrew from LIV Golf Mexico City before the final round because of wrist discomfort, putting focus on his health before Virginia and the PGA.
Bryson DeChambeau’s week in Mexico City ended earlier than expected, and now the biggest question is how quickly he can get back to full strength.
The LIV Golf star pulled out before Sunday’s final round, saying wrist discomfort forced him to stop and get the issue checked out.
It’s a significant storyline for LIV Golf and for the broader 2026 golf season, especially with LIV Golf Virginia scheduled for May 7-10 and the PGA Championship at Aronimink following the next week.
DeChambeau entered the final day well off the pace at 2-over for the tournament and 16 shots behind leader Jon Rahm, so he wasn’t in position to make a Sunday charge.
Still, the withdrawal mattered because it shifted the conversation from leaderboard drama to his health.
In a statement posted to social media, DeChambeau said he felt discomfort in his wrist during Saturday’s round and chose to step away to avoid making the problem worse.
The timing isn’t ideal. DeChambeau had already drawn attention in Mexico City earlier in the week after publicly venting about course conditions at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
Then came the injury concern, which adds another layer of uncertainty as one of the game’s biggest names heads toward a busy stretch on the calendar.
LIV’s next stop is in the Washington, D.C., area, and that event is shaping up as a key tune-up ahead of the season’s second major.
Even with the setback, DeChambeau remains one of the most dangerous major championship players in the field when healthy.
He’s posted four top-five finishes in his last five PGA Championship appearances, including runner-up results in each of the past two editions.
That track record is why this wrist issue suddenly becomes one of the more important storylines in golf over the next few weeks.
