Cameron Young’s hot run with a possible rollback-conforming Titleist ball adds fresh doubt to golf’s distance plan and how much it would really change on Tour.
Cameron Young’s golf ball has suddenly become one of the hottest talking points in the PGA Tour distance rollback debate.
Young has reportedly been playing a Titleist Pro V1x Double Dot, a lower-spin ball that sources say would likely meet the USGA and R&A’s future Overall Distance Standard.
That matters because the governing bodies have argued their planned golf ball rollback could trim roughly 13 to 15 yards from elite players’ drives once the new testing rules take effect.
Young’s results don’t exactly help that argument.
The 28-year-old switched into the ball at the 2025 Wyndham Championship, where he picked up his first PGA Tour victory.
Since then, he’s won three times in 15 starts, and his driving numbers haven’t fallen off. Before the Wyndham, Young ranked 17th on Tour in driving distance at 302.7 yards. In 2026, he’s still averaging 302.7 yards.
He also produced a 375-yard drive on the final hole at The Players Championship, the longest recorded in the ShotLink era, while closing out another victory.
That’s why Young’s ball choice could become Exhibit A for players and manufacturers who believe the rollback won’t work the same way for everyone. High-spin players like Young may not lose as much distance as lower-spin players under the proposed standard.
Adam Scott said his own test with a rollback-style ball cost him only about 2 yards.
“I just feel like they are not going to achieve what they want to achieve,” Scott said.

Lucas Glover was even blunter, saying it’s “laughable” to assume Tour players simply chase the longest ball possible. “We use a ball that’s the best all around,” Glover said.
The USGA declined comment, but Young’s surge has given rollback critics a new argument: the golf ball rule may be aimed at distance, yet performance is far more complicated than yards off the tee.
