Eight elite amateurs are in the Chevron Championship field, chasing major experience and valuable LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway points in Houston.
The Chevron Championship is opening the 2026 LPGA major season with more than just the game’s biggest stars in the spotlight.
This week at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, eight standout amateurs will try to make noise against a world-class field while also chasing crucial points in the LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway.
That makes this week especially important for Kiara Romero, the current LEAP leader with 14 points.
The Oregon junior and World Amateur Golf Ranking No. 1 player has built a strong case as the top amateur in women’s golf, helped by a T7 finish at the 2025 Portland Classic, a T36 at the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open, and a T45 at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open.
A made cut in Houston would move her even closer to the 20-point threshold needed for LPGA status, assuming all membership requirements are met.
Right behind her is Paula Martin Sampedro with nine LEAP points.
The Stanford standout from Spain arrives in Texas with momentum after taking medalist honors at the 2026 ACC Women’s Golf Championship.
Her resume already includes wins at The Women’s Amateur and The European Ladies Amateur, plus a T8 at the 2025 AIG Women’s Open.
Another player to watch is Asterisk Talley, who has six points and plenty of big-event experience despite being just 17.
Talley has already posted a T13 at the 2026 JM Eagle LA Championship, a T29 at the Ford Championship, and a T4 at this year’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Stanford’s presence is everywhere in this story. Megha Ganne, Andrea Revuelta, and Martin Sampedro are all in the field, while Farah O’Keefe of Texas adds more college star power after a T36 at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open.
Yunseo Yang and Shauna Liu round out the amateur group.
For these players, the Chevron isn’t just a major. It’s also a proving ground, and for some, it could be a major step toward the LPGA Tour.
