LPGA rookie Erika Hara delivered a career-best third-place finish at the TOTO Japan Classic, strengthening her Race to CME Globe position with a 15-under performance.
Erika Hara didn't leave the TOTO Japan Classic with a trophy Sunday, but the LPGA Tour rookie walked away with something nearly as valuable: the best finish of her young career and another reason to believe she belongs among golf's elite.
The 27-year-old Japanese star closed with a 2-under 70 at Taiheiyo Club Minori Course, finishing alone in third place at 15-under 273.
It was a significant breakthrough for Hara, who has steadily built momentum during her first full season on the LPGA Tour.
While fellow Japanese standout Shuri Sakuma captured the championship at 20 under with a brilliant final-round 64, Hara delivered four consistently strong rounds to secure her sixth top-10 finish in 25 starts this season.
Aki Iwai, who entered Sunday holding the lead, settled for second at 16 under after shooting 71.
Hara began the final round three strokes behind Iwai and immediately put herself in position to contend with a birdie at the par-5 second.
She played steady golf through the middle of her round before adding another birdie at No. 14.
A bogey at the par-3 16th threatened to derail her finish, but Hara responded with a birdie at the par-5 17th and closed with a par.
That resilience reflected the consistency she'd displayed throughout the tournament.
Hara opened with a 70 Thursday before catching fire Friday with a bogey-free 65 featuring seven birdies.
She followed with another clean scorecard Saturday, shooting 68 to move into contention.
Across 72 holes, Hara collected 19 birdies against just four bogeys, going two consecutive rounds without dropping a shot.
For a player still establishing herself on the LPGA Tour, the performance couldn't have come at a better time.
Hara entered the week ranked 40th in the Race to CME Globe standings and is projected to climb to 32nd following her third-place finish.
Her previous best result was a tie for eighth at July's ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open.
Hara's success isn't entirely surprising.
A two-time Japan Women's Open champion, she earned her LPGA Tour card through the Epson Tour in 2025 after winning the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic and finishing fifth in the Race for the Card standings.
Now she's proving that experience can translate against the world's best competition.
Sunday's finish also marked her strongest showing in four appearances at the TOTO Japan Classic.
She still has one major milestone ahead: her first LPGA Tour victory.
But after another impressive week in Japan, that breakthrough looks increasingly attainable.
