Jackson Koivun holds the final playoff spot as veterans chase the top 70 in a pressure-packed Wyndham Championship showdown at Sedgefield.

The Wyndham Championship is about to become golf’s version of a street fight.

With only the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings advancing to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, every shot at Sedgefield Country Club could determine who keeps playing and who begins an unexpectedly long offseason.

Rookie Jackson Koivun enters the week sitting directly on the cut line at No. 70. That makes him the hunted man in Greensboro, with a long list of proven PGA Tour winners, major champions and desperate veterans trying to knock him out.

Koivun has little room for error. Aldrich Potgieter, Ricky Castillo, Matti Schmid, Jordan Smith and Steven Fisk are also inside the top 70, but none can afford to coast through the final regular-season event.

The players immediately behind Koivun have the clearest paths forward. Mac Meissner, ranked 71st, could potentially move above the current bubble mark with a solo 44th-place finish.

Keegan Bradley may need roughly a two-way tie for 38th, while Andrew Putnam’s target begins around a tie for 31st.

The degree of difficulty rises quickly from there.

Jason Day likely needs at least a tie for 12th to give himself a mathematical opportunity. Tom Hoge and Matt Wallace need top-seven performances. Denny McCarthy’s season may require a solo fifth, while Brooks Koepka must contend for the title and finish no worse than fourth.

Tony Finau, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel, Max Greyserman and Davis Riley are also buried deep enough in the standings that a decent week won’t matter. They’ll need to live near the top of the leaderboard.

For dozens of others, the equation couldn’t be simpler: win or go home.

That group includes Chris Kirk, Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, Danny Willett, Nick Dunlap, Peter Malnati, Luke Clanton, Erik van Rooyen and defending Rocket Classic champion Michael Thorbjornsen. A runner-up finish would still end their playoff hopes.

And this isn’t just about extending the season for another week.

Players who reach the top 50 after the FedEx St. Jude Championship secure entry into the PGA Tour’s lucrative 2027 Signature Events. Advancing to the top 30 after the BMW Championship also comes with invitations to the Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship.

The Wyndham Championship is usually labeled the final tune-up before the postseason. This year, it’s an elimination tournament.
