Matt Fitzpatrick leads Scottie Scheffler by three at the RBC Heritage after a steady 68, while Brian Harman, Si Woo Kim, and Sepp Straka stay in the chase.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler are set for a high-voltage Sunday at the RBC Heritage, with Fitzpatrick carrying a three-shot lead over the world No. 1 into the final round at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Fitzpatrick sits at 17-under 196 after a third-round 68, while Scheffler surged with a brilliant 64 to reach 14-under.
With Brian Harman, Si Woo Kim, and Sepp Straka all within striking distance, the PGA Tour signature event has turned into one of the best leaderboards of the weekend.
Fitzpatrick’s round had some turbulence, but it never fully unraveled. He mixed in three bogeys over a seven-hole stretch, yet never felt like the round was getting away from him.
“The bogeys that I made today, I didn’t feel like I kind of hit it off the planet,” Fitzpatrick said.
He added that he “felt like” he was still making quality swings and trusted the back nine would give him chances. It did.
The Englishman flipped the momentum with a towering driver on the short par-4 ninth that set up birdie.
Later, he poured in a long birdie from off the green at the 14th and chipped in for eagle at the 15th, the kind of burst that can change a tournament in minutes.
Scheffler, meanwhile, came charging from well off the pace. He birdied five of his first six holes and kept pressing until late birdies locked him into the final pairing.
“Good to be back in the tournament,” Scheffler said after the round. He admitted he was “a little bit behind the 8-ball” to start the day, but said he’d done enough to “put myself back in position.”
Brian Harman also made noise with a 63, saying he “tried to keep the pedal down” because “it’s going to take a low number to win.”
Scheffler knows the deal, too: “You need a tiny bit of help.” Sunday should deliver plenty of drama.
