The viral club pro embraces the holiday spirit at Scioto Country Club, debuting a bold barber-shop tribute to Team USA and the Fourth of July weekend.
Michael Block has never been one to shy away from the spotlight, and his latest look at the U.S. Senior Open proves that hasn't changed.
The popular club professional arrived at Scioto Country Club this week sporting a fresh haircut with "USA" shaved into the back of his head, embracing both the holiday weekend and a busy stretch for American sports. With the Fourth of July approaching, the United States celebrating its 250th birthday, and the U.S. Senior Open taking center stage, Block decided to wear his patriotism in a way only he could.
According to Block, the idea wasn't carefully planned weeks in advance. Instead, it came together after discovering that Monty the Barberâthe same barber who cut his hair during the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hillsâwas working on-site at Scioto for players. Block and his son booked an appointment, and somewhere during the walk down the 18th fairway, inspiration struck.
Block said that with the U.S. Senior Open underway, the Fourth of July just days away, and Team USA competing on home soil in the FIFA World Cup, shaving "USA" into his hair simply felt like the perfect way to celebrate the moment. He joked that the patriotic design should stick around for about a week.
"I was walking down 18 fairway here, and I was like, dude, I've got to get USA shaved in my head somehow," Block said. "We've got the World Cup at 8:00 p.m., Saturday is July 4th, I'm playing the U.S. Open. This is all meant to be. Now I've got a USA shaved on my head. Should be there for about a week."
For golf fans, the haircut is just the latest chapter in what has become one of the sport's most entertaining stories.
Ever since his unforgettable performance at the 2023 PGA Championship, Block has built a reputation for embracing the attention while staying true to himself. Whether it's interacting with fans, delivering memorable interviews, making aces in exhibition events, or producing viral moments on social media, he continues to prove that personality still has a place in professional golf.
Love the haircut or not, one thing is certain: when Michael Block is in the field, there's usually a memorable story waiting to unfold.
