Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Sungjae Im and Wyndham Clark all need a summer surge as the PGA Tour playoff race tightens.
The PGA Tour playoff race is getting serious, and several recognizable names are running out of cushion. With the regular season now beyond the halfway point, the FedExCup standings are starting to matter more than reputation, resume or past major moments.
Keegan Bradley sits 76th in the FedExCup race, just outside the top 70 playoff cutoff. His recent form has offered hope, including a T21 at the Masters and a T12 at the RBC Heritage, but the early-season damage still lingers.
Bradley’s biggest problem has been consistency with his irons and putter. He ranks 135th in Strokes Gained: Approach and 101st in Strokes Gained: Putting, numbers that have to improve quickly.
Tony Finau is in a similar danger zone at 78th. The bigger concern? He hasn’t posted a top-10 finish this season, and his major championship schedule is suddenly uncertain.
Finau is 117th in the Official World Golf Ranking and could miss the PGA Championship unless he delivers a strong result at Quail Hollow.
Sungjae Im is even further back at 104th, though his slow start comes with context. A wrist injury delayed his season, and his fourth-place finish at the Valspar Championship showed there’s still firepower in his game.
But for a player expected to factor into the Presidents Cup picture, his 139th ranking in approach play is alarming.
Viktor Hovland, ranked 60th, isn’t in crisis, but he’s far from his usual standard. Wyndham Clark, 72nd, is also hovering near the playoff bubble despite three straight solid finishes.
The names are big. The margin for error is getting small. The next few weeks could reshape the PGA Tour postseason race fast.
